Can we talk about this scene for a minute? Arthur has just found out Merlin is a powerful sorcerer and that Merlin has been lying to him for years and sure, Arthur’s angry and feels betrayed but does he declare Merlin an enemy or accuse him of being on Morgana’s side? No, he tries to send him to Gwen, his wife, the person whose protection means the most to him. Even after the revelation, raw as the news is, he still trusts Merlin and trusts that his heart is in the right place, lies and magic aside.
How often has Arthur complained about magic tainting the hearts of lesser men? How often has Arthur looked on it with distrust and suspicion?
If anything confirms his high estimation, his implicit love and his faith in Merlin, it’s this moment.
Someone should write a fic about Arthur having a chat with Freya in Avalon.
And she’d be all sarcastic and stuff (she’s not scared anymore). And he’d whine about not having kissed Merlin in the end and she’d laugh because hey he should have Merlin’s a great kisser (‘You know those lips’). And he’d be all outraged, and she’d tease him and hold it over his head for years (oh and also the fact that he basically killed her). And he’d be all brooding (‘Worst after-live ever’) and they’d become the best of pals. And year after year they’d watch Merlin walk up to the shore and look toward the Isle and they’d hold hands to comfort each other because they both love and miss him and she’d squeeze his hand while he tries not to cry and he’d whisper ‘For you, he would have left me’ and she’d smile tender and a bit sad and say ‘For you, he’s waiting’.
Don’t you see them standing together? The Once and Future King and The Lady of the Lake, legendary and great yet also small and broken and loving and loved, there against the rolling hills and the standing stones of Avalon.
Excuse me, but that’s Arthur embracing Merlin with his body. And his hand holding his leg up. Some one please name this sex position LOL
You’re a loyal friend, Merlin.
I trusted you.
in camelot we don’t say “i love you” we say “pompous arrogant supercilious condescending dollophead clotpole” which roughly translates to “stay with me.” i think that’s really beautiful.
